Nature Walk #4: Worth Hills Park
This morning, I decided to run for the first time in a couple of weeks. I had meant to run and walk around my new neighborhood for a while but had not made the time for it. I finally had the opportunity to go to bed early the night before and utilized my time by waking up with enough time in the morning to go on this run.
As expected, going on this run made me feel energized and happy. The sun was only just rising from the sky, so it was the perfect temperature to be outside. Not only that, the humidity was relatively low and there was no strong wind which made for a comfortable atmosphere outside.
Near my house is the Worth Hills Park. I chose to head there first to observe the nature in the area. As I ran to that area, I noticed the lush and vast amount of trees lining the neighborhood. There seemed to be many species of trees, all in varying shades of green and stages of life. Some of the trees were even growing out onto the street, sprawling over powerlines.
The park was covered in moist, vivid green grass. It seemed relatively well-manicured, and I wondered if someone from the city comes to mow the grass here to keep it from getting overgrown. The park also has some benches for people to sit, relax, and enjoy this sanctuary in the middle of a bustling college town. There were also two ATT machines in the park for what I presume to be Wi-Fi services. Although they were an eyesore, they did have flowers and trees painted on them, which I thought was a nice touch.
As I kept walking through the park, I noticed a small pathway leading to two homes. If the park was already a sanctuary, this path looked like an oasis. We have an entrance somewhat like this in my parents’ neighborhood, and I used to love it as a kid. Something about it felt magical like you were entering into another world. The trees and bushes were slightly overgrown, leading it to look even more musical.
By contrast, I then ran around the Worth Hills section of campus. If I thought the Worth Hills park was well kept, it is nothing in comparison to the soccer field. The grass is cut so precisely that you can see the lines left from the lawn mower. Still, the field did look beautiful as the sun shined on it. When I made my loop to head back home, the heat from the sun got stronger, but it felt good on my skin. I felt like I had given my body its daily dose of outdoor healing, and I kept that good energy with me throughout the day.
